Esiste secondo Gostanza, strega in San Miniato, accusata e processata per stregoneria nel 1594, un paese in cui chi si recava una volta era costretto a recarsi per sempre: il luogo del sabba. Questa serie fotografica ci mostra la natura di questi luoghi; la strega, se poi di strega si tratta, prepara antichi riti di guarigione, trae energie vitali dal sole, non ha in sé nulla di oscuro, ma vive appagata in congiunzione con i misteri della natura. Ritratti di una donna senza tempo, che sa. Oggi, siamo abituati a vedere fotografie finte e ritoccate di splendide donne stampate sulle copertine delle riviste ed è affascinante notare come, per Catteruccia, la figura femminile è l’opposto di quella visione anonima ed omologata. Una fotografia mostra una giovane donna dai capelli rossi glorificata in una gioiosa danza, la natura rigogliosa fa da sfondo a quest’immagine che sembra giungerci da un tempo indefinito. Le fotografie di Melania Catteruccia celebrano la complessità della vita. La donna/strega sembra colta in un rituale privato, e come per altri ritratti della giovane fotografa, lo spettatore aspetta il seguito della storia.

Gostanza - witch indicted and tried for witchcraft in 1594 on San Miniato (Florence, Italy) - said that exist a place where if people went one time they was forced to go forever: the place of the Sabbath. This photo series shows us the nature of these places; the witch, if is a witch, prepares ancient healing rituals, takes her vital energy from the sun, has not nothing in herself of obscure, but contented lives in conjunction with the mysteries of nature. Portraits of a woman timeless, who knows. Today we are used to seeing pictures of beautiful women fake and retouched printed on the covers of magazines, and is fascinating to note that, for Cateruccia, the female figure is the opposite of that vision anonymous and approved. A photograph shows a young woman with red hair, glorified in a joyous dance, the nature lush do as background to this image that seems to reach us for an undefined time. The photographs by Melanie Catteruccia celebrate the complexity of life. The woman / witch seems caught in a private ritual, and like other portraits of the young photographer, the viewer expects the rest of the story.
